Physioworks Health Group Physiotherapist Amy Shipperd spent last week working as the tournament physiotherapist for the AO2025 ID and Deaf Championships held at Melbourne Park.
It is the third successive year that Amy Shipperd has been the tournament physio, with 32 athletes from all over the world competing at the Championships.
Amy was kept very busy treating both in the rooms, as well as on court.
“It is definitely a challenge treating deaf athletes who don’t speak English. We had two translators supporting throughout the tournament, but quite often I would end up using the athletes translator app on their phones” laughed Amy.
With only 3 minutes to treat players on court, being well organized and well prepared is essential, especially with the injury kit bag for court calls.
“I spent a lot of time dressing and treating blisters on hands and feet, which is very common in tennis physiotherapy, but not required much in clinical private practice” said Amy.
Amy assisted numerous players across the tournament, including AO 2025 ID Men’s Singles & Doubles Champion Archie Graham from Australia and AO 2025 Deaf Men’s Singles Champion Prithvi Sekhar from India.
