Health awareness & promotion is an ever increasing part of modern day live, including the promotion of the many risk factors that can contribute to our overall cancer risk.
Understanding more about cancer, combined with advances in medical treatment, and increasing public awareness, means cancer can be managed much more effectively & has a much better prognosis compared to what it once did.
Most people understand typical cancer treatment may include surgery, chemotherapy, radiation & hormone therapy (to name a few). With ongoing extensive research across all cancers & health outcomes, especially in the last 10 years, the Clinical Oncology Society of Australia has published guidelines for health care professionals to encourage a holistic approach to cancer care. This includes exercise, nutrition, emotional & psychological support, outside of standard medical treatment.
From an exercise perspective, GP’s & oncologist are encouraged to refer their patients to an Accredited Exercise Physiologist who specialises in the prescription & delivery of exercise.
Thanks to extensive research, it is well known that exercise can assist in managing many cancer related symptoms, including (but not limited to):
- Nausea
