Physioworks Health Group provides physiotherapy services to a range of elite cricket clubs and State Cricket team programs.
Physioworks Health Group Sports Physiotherapist Matthew Lynagh has been providing physio support to the U15 Victorian Girls Cricket team across the 2015/16 season.
Prior to Christmas the team competed in the Under 15’s Girls Australian National Cricket championships held in Hobart, playing a mix of one day games and T20 matches.
Although no major injuries occurred Matt assisted the team with minor niggles and soreness and, importantly, in recovery, as the team played 8 games over the week long tournament. “The age of the girl’s means there are numerous physical challenges with growing, dynamic bodies participating in a highly competitive, full program over the week – so fatigue and soreness was a factor as most were not used to the heavy work load. Helping the girl’s recover and then prepare for the next game was critical to their team success” said Matt.
The team had a highly successful championships; winning 7 of their 8 games and came third overall on points, missing the final by only 0.28 points, with Annabel Sutherland from the Victorian team named Player of the Series.
