Physioworks Health Group have recently been educating players and coaches at the Casey Basketball Association (CBA) Induction Day.
As the long-term physiotherapy and allied health care community partner to Casey Basketball, the importance of “managing your body to help perform at your best” was emphasised to all participants and parents at the annual Induction and Development Day program.
The CBA Induction attendees included 240 Under 12 boys and girls, 230 Under 14 boys and girls and around 150 Under 16 boys and girls, with 62 head coaches and 62 assistant coaches.
Across the Induction Day, members of the Physioworks team, including Physiotherapist Nathan Monaco, who is team physio for the Casey Cavaliers in NBL1; and Massage Therapist Karyn Wheeler, initially briefed the Casey basketball coaches on key exercise drills.
The coaches then taught their players, taking their respective teams through the warm- up drills before training. Across the warm-ups and training session, Nathan and Karyn floated from group to group assisting with key learnings specific for basketballers.
Post training, the Physioworks team got all players together to do a post training cool down. They educated the young athletes about the importance warm up and cool down, movement such as running and jumping, injury prevention, understanding your body, better performance, nutrition, hydration, sleep and recovery. All participants and parents received a Physioworks educational pack.
